Competition Introduction
The Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition(中国大学生工程实践与创新能力大赛) is sponsored by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and organized
by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Engineering Training in Higher Schools of the Ministry of Education, which is included in the "List of Judging Evaluation and Competition
of the Ministry of Education (2021 Edition)" of the national college students' scientific and technological innovation competitions and belongs to the Ministry of Education's
A class disciplinary competitions, which is one of the most influential national college students' scientific and technological innovation competitions.
"Intelligent Classification of Household Garbage" is one of the events of the competition.
The team designed and produced an intelligent garbage classification device with a delicate and fashionable appearance
and eye-catching classification mark, which realizes the intelligent identification, classification, and
storage of four types of urban household garbage, including "recyclable waste, kitchen waste, hazardous waste, and other waste
", as well as the compression of the compressible garbage among the recyclable garbage. It also has the functions of full-load alarm and playing garbage classification propaganda films.
School Level Competition
Xingke Yang and his team members (Junze Li and Jinyang Zhang) applied for the competition in September 2020, and after one month of research and development, they produced the first version of the intelligent waste classification trash bin and participated in the university-level competition in October 2020. A total of four teams from Southwest Jiaotong University completed the project and participated in the competition. Xingke's team's bin was selected as 1st place in the university and qualified to participate in the provincial competition in Sichuan Province by its better task completion.
Provincial Level Competition
The provincial competition was held in November 2020 at Southwest University of Science and Technology.
60+ teams participated in the garbage classification program across the province, and after
two rounds of selection in the preliminary and final rounds, Xingke Yang's team's work ultimately
achieved the 1st place in the province and was awarded one of the two national competition slots in Sichuan Province.

National level competition
Under the guidance of instructor Prof. Chaogen Jiang, Xingke Yang's team continuously optimized and revamped their work, and finally in September 2021, they participated in the national level competition. A total of 60+ teams from various colleges and universities across the country participated in the project. After two rounds of intense closed competition, Xingke Yang's team's work was ranked 11th in the country in terms of the total score of the task, and thus won the honor of the National First Prize!
